Dec. 10, 2013 - WASHINGTON, DC -- Helping patients make their medical records more portable so they can coordinate their care online across multiple providers is the goal of an innovative pilot project currently involving three states, five health information organizations, and three personal health record (PHR) companies.
Oct. 30, 2013 – San Diego Regional Health Information Exchange (SDRHIE) has a new name and two new major participants. The federally funded HIE has evolved into an independent, community-supported organization, San Diego Health Connect, which today announced that Scripps Health and Sharp HealthCare have signed agreements to participate in directing the exchange.
Oct. 18, 2013 -- CalOHII has awarded contracts to three organizations to participate in an electronic personal health record (PHR) demonstration project. Nothing currently exists to aid health information service providers (HISPs)/health information organizations (HIOs) or providers in evaluating the suitability of PHRs for inclusion in their delivery of care. The pilot will help establish policies and procedures for identifying use cases and the specific conditions for trusted exchange that includes PHRs.
Sep 25, 2013 - The Beacon community program was designed to drive investment in health IT infrastructure, and as the three-year grant-funded projects come to an end this fall, a wide range of achievements have been recognized. Janhavi Kirtane Fritz, acting director of the program for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, led a webinar detailing some of the impressive results, including new exchange capabilities, performance improvement, technology deployment and regional learning. Fitz said the program will be releasing public briefs about each community’s lessons learned in the coming weeks. Learning guides will be practical implementation guides that “take the promise of IT-enabled intervention and try to codify the major lessons,” she said.
